In a special statement released this week by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the experts expressed their opinion that measuring LDL, or bad, cholesterol may no longer be the best measure of heart health in high risk patients.
A panel of medical experts in these agencies found that even though keeping LDL measurement below 100 is necessary, testing for the protein ApoB should seriously be considered to help accurately identify for cardiovascular problems.
Promoting lifestyle changes that reduce cardiovascular risk has been highly recommended rather than merely concentrating on drug treatment. It is not all about medication. The lifestyle is a big part of this. How do you do that- improve diets, stop smoking, and exercise.
